Crack the Code: WWII Cipher Challenge

You’re a code breaker working with Allied forces during World War II’s peak. Your intel team has just grabbed a key enemy message with info about a surprise attack coming soon. You don’t have much time, and a friendly base’s future depends on what you do.

The Captured Dispatch

Your intercepted message shows this enemy note to their units:

“We will attack ———— Garrison at 0500 hrs tomorrow morning with air and sea cover.”

The place they plan to hit is blacked out, but the enemy code makers left a coded word puzzle with the missing details.

Your Code Challenge: Figure Out the Attack Target

STEP 1: Locate the Hidden Words

Search the following letter grid for all words listed on the reference panel at the right

Words can be positioned:

  • Horizontally (left-to-right or right-to-left)
  • Vertically (top-to-bottom or bottom-to-top)
  • Diagonally
  • In any direction (reverse or forward)

Mark each word by selecting the first letter, dragging to the last letter, then releasing.

STEP 2: Crack the Secret Code

After finding all listed words, three specific letters remain hidden in the grid. These letters spell out the garrison’s location.

CIPHER CLUE: The hidden letters are positioned between 3 words which all are the names of fruits.

The hidden three letters add up to the word “Bay” which specifies the location of target garrison. The subtle hint in the captured message “sea cover” also indicates that the target is close to the sea.
